Clever Ways To Sneak In More Water As Temps Rise

As the summer months roll in and the temperatures rise, staying hydrated is vital. During the warmer months, we lose more water through our skin in sweat, so it's more important than ever to ensure we replenish that lost water. Today we share our best-kept secrets on how to sneak in more water on those warmer days (and really any day!).

So Why Is Staying Hydrated So Important?
We all hear about how important drinking water is but what's all the fuss about? In the summer, drinking water is encouraged to combat dehydration as well as to help us regulate our body temperature. However, drinking 8 glasses of water or more per day may benefit our overall health in many ways such as: aiding in digestion, preventing constipation, preventing kidney stones and maintaining optimal kidney health, increasing energy levels, keeping joints lubricated, aiding in weight loss efforts and the list goes on!

Okay, Let's Get Hydrated!
Now that we are all on the same page and agree water is a key ingredient in improved overall health, let's discover a few ways to sneak more water in, especially on warmer days.

1.) Eat your water: That's not a typo— you really can eat foods that have higher water content like watermelon, grapes, peaches, cantaloupe, and oranges. These juicy fruits not only have lots of water but are also loaded with fiber and other vitamins. If you are looking for a refreshing snack, try popping these fruits in the freezer and snacking on them on a warmer day to feel instantly refreshed.

2.) Spa-ify your water: If your water tastes good you're more likely to drink it! We recommend cutting up various fruits and herbs to add to your water. Cucumber/ lemon, lemon/lavender, raspberry/mint, strawberry/ lemon, and orange/lemon are all popular flavor combos people use to enhance their water and thus increase their water intake. Not a fan of combining flavors? That's okay just cut up your favorite fruits and throw them in your water, we're sure it will taste amazing regardless. If you enjoy the taste of water as is but want to add the slightest pop of flavor, you can always add little cuts of fruit into an ice cube tray, fill the tray with water, freeze, and have flavored ice cubes for a burst of flavor on a hot summer day.

3.) Try using a straw: This might seem silly but people actually drink more water when using a straw vs just taking sips from a bottle or a glass. Something about sucking down water vs taking big gulps seems more appealing to us humans. We encourage you to purchase reusable straws or better yet purchase tumblers, water bottles, or water jugs with built-in straws to help you get even more water in. Speaking of tumblers, water bottles, and water jugs....

4.) Carry water with you at all times: On warm days you'll find yourself desperately looking for water at any given time. Keep water top of mind and keep your body hydrated by carrying a water bottle with you no matter where you go. A plastic water bottle can do the trick; however, for warmer days, you might consider investing in a stainless steel bottle, tumbler, or jug which can keep your water cool for hours on end so you feel refreshed at first sip. Bonus points if your water bottle, tumbler, or jug comes with a straw!
